Power of Thor Megaways: Why Two RTPs Are Listed, and What the Free Spins Gamble Is Worth
Published — UTC

Short answer: Power of Thor Megaways is a Pragmatic Play Megaways slot released on 1 April 2021, with up to 117,649 ways and a 5,000x maximum win. Two RTP figures circulate for it, and both are official. Pragmatic’s game page gives 96.55%, which is the RTP of normal spins. Its player-facing profile site shows 96.97%, which the game’s own server data identifies as the RTP of the Bonus Buy. The free spins round also offers a gamble wheel that can lift 10 spins towards 22; the success chances listed in the game data (62.81%, 70.39% and 75.02%) are each below the level at which the gamble would break even on spin count alone.
Below, every figure carries its source, peso amounts use a ₱10 bet, and our own arithmetic is marked as such. We also ran 1,500 paid spins on Pragmatic Play’s free demo server and report what came out, labelled as a sample. Sources were checked on 15 October 2026.
The official numbers and where they come from

Pragmatic Play’s official game page describes the 117,649 ways, the Hammer that lands on the top row and turns the symbols below it into Wilds, free spins triggered by Scatters that spell THOR, a free-spins multiplier that rises with every tumble, and an RTP of 96.55%. The pragmaticplay.fun profile, which Pragmatic runs for players, adds the release date (01-04-2021), a 32.79% hit frequency, a 5,000x max win, “Medium” volatility, a 100x Bonus Buy, no Ante Bet, and an RTP of 96.97%. The configuration block sent by the official demo server (game code vswayshammthor) resolves the RTP question and adds the gamble figures.
| Item | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| RTP, normal spins | 96.55% | Game page; demo game data (“regular”) |
| RTP, Bonus Buy | 96.97% | Demo game data (“purchase”); shown as RTP on pragmaticplay.fun |
| Max win | 5,000x bet, about 1 in 867,302 rounds | Demo game data; pragmaticplay.fun |
| Hit frequency | 32.79% | pragmaticplay.fun |
| Ways | 117,649 | Game page |
| Bonus Buy price | 2,000 coins ÷ 20 = 100x bet | Demo game data |
| Ante Bet | Not available | pragmaticplay.fun; no Ante setting in demo data |
| Gamble levels | 62.81% / 70.39% / 75.02% | Demo game data (“gamble_lvl_1/2/3”) |
An operator can run a different RTP version of the same title. Whatever is printed here, the figure that applies to you is the one in the game’s information screen at the site where you play.
96.55% or 96.97%: which RTP applies to you
The demo data lists two return figures side by side, “regular” 96.55 and “purchase” 96.97. The first is what you get from ordinary spins; the second only applies if you pay to buy the free spins. Quoting 96.97% as “the RTP” overstates normal play by 0.42 percentage points. In pesos (our calculation, theoretical loss = amount staked × (1 − RTP)):
| ₱10 base bet | Staked | RTP | Theoretical loss |
|---|---|---|---|
| One normal spin | ₱10 | 96.55% | ₱0.345 |
| 100 normal spins | ₱1,000 | 96.55% | ₱34.50 |
| One Bonus Buy | ₱1,000 | 96.97% | ₱30.30 |
On paper the buy is ₱4.20 cheaper per ₱1,000 staked. In practice the gap is small next to the variance: ₱1,000 placed on one free spins round can return a few pesos or several thousand, while ₱1,000 spread over 100 spins usually returns something in between. The long-run figures only describe averages over a very large number of rounds.
Where 117,649 ways come from
Our calculation: 117,649 = 7 × 7 × 7 × 7 × 7 × 7, that is 7 to the power of 6. Six reels each showing seven symbols give exactly the number on Pragmatic’s page. Most spins show fewer symbols on some reels, so they have far fewer ways; 117,649 is the ceiling, not the typical spin. More ways mean more possible winning combinations on a spin, but the RTP is fixed by the game’s mathematics and does not rise with the number of ways.
The paytable in multiples of your bet
Values below are the demo paytable divided by 20 lines, giving multiples of the total bet per way. The symbol order follows the data from highest to lowest; independent reviews describe the top symbol as Thor and the low symbols as A, K, Q, J, 10 and 9.
| Symbol tier | 6 of a kind | 5 | 4 | 3 | 2 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Top | 20 | 10 | 5 | 1 | 0.5 |
| 2nd | 5 | 2.5 | 2 | 0.5 | — |
| 3rd | 2.5 | 1.5 | 1 | 0.5 | — |
| 4th | 2 | 0.75 | 0.5 | 0.25 | — |
| 5th–6th | 1.25–1.5 | 0.5–0.6 | 0.4 | 0.2 | — |
| 7th–10th | 0.6–1 | 0.4–0.5 | 0.2–0.25 | 0.1–0.15 | — |
Every 3-of-a-kind except the top symbol pays half the bet or less per way. A ₱10 spin that lands one way of three 9s pays ₱1; even three ways of it pay ₱3. On a Megaways grid wins are often several ways at once, so the useful habit is to compare the total win shown with your bet rather than to read “WIN” as profit. The 32.79% hit frequency counts every win, including these small ones.
Free spins and the gamble wheel
Pragmatic’s page says Scatters that spell THOR trigger free spins and that during the round a multiplier rises with every tumble. Independent reviews consistently give the starting awards as 10, 14, 18, 22, 26 or 30 free spins for 4 to 9 Scatters, and say an award of 10, 14 or 18 can be gambled on a wheel for 4 more spins, losing the whole round on a miss. The scatter-to-spins table is not on Pragmatic’s public pages, so we treat it as unverified. The gamble ladder itself is confirmed by the demo server: when our sample triggered free spins, the game paused with a gamble prompt listing the steps 10, 14, 18 and 22, and the game data lists three gamble levels, which we read as the three wheel steps in that order.
| Wheel step | Listed chance | Expected spins after gamble | Break-even chance |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 → 14 | 62.81% | 8.79 | 71.4% |
| 14 → 18 | 70.39% | 12.67 | 77.8% |
| 18 → 22 | 75.02% | 16.50 | 81.8% |
| 10 → 22 in three steps | 33.17% | 7.30 | 45.5% |
Our calculation: expected spins = chance × spins if won (a loss leaves zero); break-even = spins kept ÷ spins if won. At every step the listed chance is below break-even, so in terms of spin count the gamble gives back fewer spins on average than it puts at risk. Going from 10 all the way to 22 succeeds about one time in three (0.6281 × 0.7039 × 0.7502). There is a reason this is not the whole story: because the multiplier keeps rising with every tumble, later spins in a long round can be worth more than earlier ones, so a spin count is not a perfect measure of value. Pragmatic does not publish the value of a round by length, so we cannot say whether that effect closes the gap. If you want the steady option, collecting the spins you have is the lower-risk choice.
Our demo sample: 1,500 paid spins
We ran 1,500 paid spins on Pragmatic Play’s free demo server on 15 October 2026 using demo credits only, at a 2.00 bet (coin 0.10 × 20) with no Bonus Buy, and collected any free spins without gambling. Tumbles and free spins were not counted as extra spins, and every figure was reconciled with the demo balance.
| Measure (demo sample) | Result |
|---|---|
| Paid spins | 1,500 (3,000.00 staked) |
| Total returned | 2,113.80, a sample return of 70.46% (not the RTP) |
| Spins with any win | 529 (35.27%; Pragmatic lists 32.79%) |
| Wins smaller than the bet | 293 (55% of winning spins) |
| Spins paying 20x or more | 6 (0.4%) |
| Free spins rounds | 1, with 10 spins; collected without gambling |
| Free spins multiplier reached | 7x by the end of the round |
| Free spins round total | 11.85x |
| Largest single win | 46x (base game) |

This sample is a useful reality check because nothing dramatic happened in it. Wins were frequent, 529 of 1,500 spins, a little above Pragmatic’s 32.79%, but more than half of them paid back less than the bet, and no spin reached 50x. The only free spins round came after 1,500 spins, ran for 10 spins, built its multiplier to 7x and paid 11.85x in total. At ₱10 a spin that is ₱118.50, against the ₱1,000 a Bonus Buy would have cost for a round of the same kind. The 70.46% sample return is far below 96.55% simply because a short sample without a big free spins round cannot show the rare wins that the RTP includes. It does not show that the game is “cold”, and a different 1,500 spins could look completely different. The gamble prompt our sample met is also worth noting: we took the 10 spins. Had we gambled for 14, the listed chance of losing the whole round was 37.19%.
Verified, calculated and unverified
- Verified from Pragmatic sources: release date, 96.55% regular and 96.97% Bonus Buy RTP, 5,000x cap and its listed frequency, 32.79% hit frequency, 117,649 ways, Hammer and THOR mechanics, rising free-spins multiplier, 100x buy price, no Ante, paytable values, three gamble-level percentages, the 10/14/18/22 gamble ladder (seen in the demo’s gamble prompt).
- Our calculations: peso theoretical-loss table, 7⁶ = 117,649, paytable in bet multiples, gamble expected spins and break-even chances.
- Demo sample: counts from 1,500 demo spins on one day. Not RTP.
- Unverified: free spins awarded per Scatter count (from independent reviews), the assumption that gamble levels 1, 2 and 3 belong to the 10→14, 14→18 and 18→22 steps, free-spins trigger frequency, and the RTP version your operator runs.
Before you play
Each spin is random and independent; none of the averages above predict the next one. Set a budget and a stopping point first, do not raise your bet to chase free spins, and treat both the Bonus Buy and the gamble wheel as ways of taking more risk, not as ways of improving your odds. Online gambling is for adults only; in the Philippines, check the age and eligibility rules that apply to you under PAGCOR regulation before playing.
